Feminine and Masculine

In the past there have been many trends in fashion, however I have noticed a pattern in the style of clothes. It varies from masculine to feminine. In the 30's it became popular to drop the hips and have a form that was as straight as a pole. Before that style was popular, everyone wore corsets to establish an extreme feminine figure. Not only that, in these past five years I have observed that now the trend is a feminine style, including form-fitting clothes and lace. Early in the 2000's and even in the 90's it seemed to be all about a masculine form, including Grunge, the baggy pants and a crop top. Just something to think about.

Chanel Fall-Winter 2014 Ready-to-Wear Show

Anything goes when in the fashion world. Anything. For heaven's sakes they are in a fake grocery store. Notice how once the models are done walking they start "shopping." Towards the end a model picked up a chainsaw off one of the shelves. Hmmmm, I thought. Chainsaws in a grocery store. One of the outfits even came with an egg carton purse, and that made me laugh. Not sure if I would wear that.
I enjoy watching Chanel shows. When I press play on the video and notice how long it is I say to myself I'll only watch a little bit. They are so engrossing. Of course, fifteen minutes later I see the credits rolling.

Fashion and Trends

The first thing I would like to tell you is the difference between fashion and trends. Now, many people get these two words mixed up, even I do. The word trend in fashion refers to what the general customers are buying, while the word fashion is defined as new, innovative, and unique.
In the fashion world there are whole careers devoted to finding what the next trend will be. They are called Trend Forecasters. Trend Forecasters look at the present economy, events, and sociologic status to try and predict what the customers will tend to buy.
Honestly, I find trends a bit boring. What I am more interested in is high fashion, or haute couture. Haute couture is a category in fashion that is, well, the most snobby. This category it is strictly monitored by Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, and to be a couturier you must be invited by them. In the end there are very few designers, but all of them are very good. Haute couture is fashion.
